As we follow the Jewish/Christian calendar, we observe certain traditions that hold cultural and spiritual significance. One such tradition is the practice of ‘Spring Cleaning’, which involves the removal of all chametz or leavened bread from the home before Passover. This deep cleaning, which ensures that no crumbs of bread or yeast-based products remain, is a way of respecting and observing the Passover requirements that have been passed down through generations.
Personally, I find this practice so beneficial that I’ve incorporated it into my routine twice a year, aligning with the transition into cooler and warmer months. I derive great satisfaction from this process, as it not only makes my home cozy but also prepares it for the upcoming season. Everything feels fresh and inviting, from the newly washed pillows and throws for winter warmth to the added seasonal decorations. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of my home but also ensures a clean and healthy living environment.

The Bible is big on hygiene. If you read through the law, you will see that people washed clothes and went to the bathroom away from home. It is very detailed.

This year, we have until about Easter, late April 2025, to complete it.

Remember to:

  • Clean the bathroom, freshen up towels and add any seasonal decorations you would like.
  • Organise the kitchen. It is essential for food preparation and organising the fridge.
  • Wash your clothing and bedding. Sort out your wardrobes and linen storage to keep everything clean and fresh.

And don’t forget to add some nice touches around your home that you enjoy. It could be flowers or a new recipe that you would like to try. Your space should be refreshing, healthy and relaxing, and these personal touches can bring you a sense of pleasure and satisfaction. .
