The Christian walk does provide guidance on raising children; we are to train them up in the ways of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
Where To Begin?
It’s normal for children to be energetic and to have go-to activities, depending on the weather, that help keep them occupied and burn off some energy.
- Sports should not come before the House of the Lord. Pick a youth group and activities before sports. If you are struggling financially, this is a bit of a no-brainer, Youth groups are free. If you feel uncomfortable at a church, then it’s not the one for you.
- A couple of colouring books, that are bible story-focused, like Noah’s Ark, are simple ways for them to get to know the stories of the bible.
- Talk through any struggles they may be having. Not all of us are “super Christians,” it’s healthy for them to share their frustrations.
- Playtime is great for burning off energy, and having backup plans for when they need to burn some off.
- Reading a child’s bible at nighttime time part of their wind-down routine.
- Watch what you give them to eat and drink, sugar with artificial colours in their diet will make them wired for sound.
- A basic daily routine helps to settle children.
- Have a selection of kid-safe films on hand that you approve of to keep them occupied.
- Pay attention to what works for your child.
- Finding toys on apps like Facebook Marketplace helps stretch your money to provide some playtime. Teach them to look after stuff.
- Find Christian websites run by parents that share what works for them, which takes some of the guesswork out.
- Basic ideas such as reading, colouring in, playtime, and going to a youth group fill their time in a positive way.
